Orphaned when she was an infant, Hope spent the first 7 years of her life without a family. With only her childhood best friend Joshua at her side, Hope struggled with trust and faith that she was worthy of having a home. So when David and Jessica Curtis asked to adopt Hope it came as quite a shock. Their love and kindness melted the insecurities that Hope had built up over her early years and finally gave her the family she had always imagined. However, after two years of what seemed like a dream, tragedy struck the Curtis family when Hope’s adopted mother Jessica died unexpectedly. Heartbroken, David and Hope moved on as best they knew how.

7 years later, Hope continued to grow into a kind courageous young woman. While walking home from school with Joshua one day, an out of control limousine veered off the road and nearly struck her and Joshua. Having barely avoided the collision, both Hope and Joshua tried to come to the aid of those in the vehicle. Joshua was able to pull the driver from the front of the burning wreckage, but Hope was nowhere to be seen as she had climbed into the rear stretch of the car to help anyone trapped. After safely setting the driver down on the nearby sidewalk, Joshua started to run towards the backend of the limo to help Hope. Suddenly, as Joshua neared the open back door and for a moment his eyes met with Hope’s, a flash of fire and blue light sent Joshua flying into the air. The explosion shattered every window within 50 yards and before Joshua even hit the ground his heart sank deep inside his chest. Time seemed to move at a crawl and the only thing he could see was his best friend Hope being slowly consumed by flames until his view was abruptly interrupted by a sudden wave of black.

In a terrifying gasp of air, Joshua’s next memory was him erupting from a hospital bed in terror. The sounds of heart monitors and hospital alarms filled the room, but he could only hear the sounds of metal ripping and fire rising. His chest and eyes moved like they were in a race to see which could move fastest and sweat seemed to burst from every pore. As the weight of this young man’s emotions began to collect, and heavy tears welled around his eyes, Joshua was suddenly tackled by the person he thought he’d lost. Hope was wrapping her arms around Joshua and she was completely unharmed. The two of them shared the deepest embrace they ever had as they both realized how special they were to each other. Hope went on to explain that the man she was trying to help in the vehicle was disabled, but wouldn’t leave the car without his briefcase. She had scrambled to try to find it through the smoke and flames when she finally found the case it was on fire. She grabbed the handle and made her way towards the back door. It was at that moment that the briefcase began to burn blue. When she looked back at the man he had seemingly passed away from his injuries. Briefcase in hand, Hope made her way to the back door only to see Joshua running towards her. It was at that moment that the briefcase exploded. Hope thought she had breathed her final breath, however when she opened her eyes she was alive and perfectly fine. A nearby store owner had called an ambulance and they were both brought to the hospital. Joshua had some burns from the explosion and luckily only suffered a minor head injury when his head hit the concrete. When Hope explained what happened to her to the doctors and police it was simply chalked up as a miracle. After a couple days, Joshua was released from the hospital and things started to get back to normal.

For Hope however, things “felt” different. The first thing that stuck out to her was that her skin looked different. Her typical teenage acne was completely gone and her skin looked or even felt tighter if that made sense. Next, she found that her hair was infinitely more dense than usual. In trying to brush her hair she broke three different brushes trying to get tangles out not a single strand was transferring to the new brushes. The final symptom that confirmed something was different was one morning while coming down stairs for breakfast she made herself a bowl of cereal with her headphones in like normal and sat down to eat. To her shock, her dad David yelled through the kitchen and asked if she was okay. She removed her headphones for him to tell her that he had dropped a coffee mug on the floor and glass had gone everywhere. He walked to the garage to get the broom and dustpan to clean it up. Hope, wide eyed, looked at her feet and found that several large pieces of glass were stuck to the bottom of each foot, but there wasn’t a single scratch on her. No blood and not even the slightest hint of abrasion or indention. She further inspected the floor and she had left a path of broken glass in her footsteps. At this moment they both knew something was definitely new.

Reluctantly, David agreed to do a few experiments with Hope’s new “abilities”. She could still feel the gentle brush of a satin sheet, but the blade of a knife was as noticeable as a speck of dust landing on a winter jacket. Almost starting like a joke, their “tests” evolved into a competition of sorts to see if anything could put a scratch on her. Baseball bats, fireworks, tasers, potato cannon, nail guns, etc. Nothing seemed to phase her. It was at this point that Hope decided that if what was happening to her was real and lasting that she couldn’t squander such an incredible gift. Hope had grown to call her father “her superhero who saved her” and if she now had actual superpowers then she wanted to use them to help others. So after prayer and careful consideration, Hope decided that she wanted to join the Sardis City Police Department. Being 17 and having one more year of high school, Hope decided to keep things quiet until she graduated.

Nervous with anticipation and not knowing what the future held, the day Hope finished high school she walked into the SCPD and requested a meeting with Police Chief Red Rockner. Taking a seat, Hope noticed a shadowy figure seated at the other end of the waiting room. She smiled at him, but the man only looked at her sternly as if annoyed. After a long wait, Hope was finally invited back to have a word with the imposing head of police. She introduced herself and was as direct as possible. Once finished, Chief Rockner slowly stood up and thanked her for her interest in the SCPD, but openly told her that he had no time for games. Hope, understanding his disbelief, tried to interject and request an opportunity to show what she was capable of, but Rockner called for some nearby officers to escort her out. Fighting frustration and trying to compose herself, Hope complied with leaving the Chief’s office as not to trouble the other officers. She apologized and thanked Rockner for hearing her story. A softness overcame Rocker as he admired Hope’s sincerity in the midst of her disappointment. He offered to personally walk her out. As the two of them began the walk through the precinct Rockner invited her to apply for the police academy if she truly believed this is something she wanted to dedicate her life to. As she continued to listen to the hulking chief, Hope heard a small disturbance behind him. She shifted her body just enough to catch a glimpse of the man who was once seated now running at full speed towards Chief Rockner. In what seemed like an eternity, the man pulled a gun out from behind his back and was directing it straight at the chief. Without hesitation, Hope lunged beyond Chief Rockner with her hand extended out towards this would-be assassin. In a mere second her hand gripped the over the front of the barrel and BANG! Her hand had blocked the bullet completely! Hope stood shaken and eyes bulging as she couldn’t believe what had just happened, gun still clinched in the palm of her hand. The only shock that rivaled her own was the look on the gunman’s face as he’d just seen the impossible. Before their next breath Chief Rockner sprung forth and with his overwhelming size, grabbed the man palm to face, and proceeded to ram the villain straight through the wall knocking him unconscious. The police chief looked back at Hope in disbelief, and after a moment of silence, asked, “So kid, when can you start?”.

From that moment, Hope was brought into the SCPD as a one of a kind operative. Her training was kept classified and entirely unique from other officers. The SCPD created an exclusive division just to cater to her abilities called “Project REACH”. For seven years, Hope fought and trained to be the absolute best she could be, physically and mentally. From learning advanced weaponry to protocol and response training Hope was molding herself into a force to help mankind. While the days were long and challenges overwhelming, the rewards far outweighed the race. Outside of those directly working on Project Reach only her father and Joshua knew of her incredible journey. So after seven hard fought years of learning and growing, Hope is finally ready to show the world what she’s capable of.
